Success Stories: Wade in the Water

Water is amazing. Let’s play with that! This resource was made by possible through 10+ community partnerships. It is especially for faith-based congregations to explore water where we live...near the Mississippi River in St. Paul, Minnesota. The activities, connections, field trips, links, tips and tricks shared here blend theology, water quality and community.

From the local rain garden all the way to the river, from food gardens to changing climate; God calls us in many ways to care for Creation. Our hope is that this resource provides creative ways for your community to wade in the waters of environmental stewardship and justice, then grow from there.

This resource is prepared in two parts. The first is an overview of the options that follow, including Bible texts, content themes, and activity descriptions. The overview contains links to each activity, allowing planners to pick and choose which activity best suits their needs. Activity “recipes” give details about Bible references, materials, scientific content, and action steps. “Wade in the Water: A Curriculum for Community” can be downloaded for free here.

Thank you to Capitol Region Watershed District for supporting this project with water quality expertise and grant funding. Thank you to the thoughtful congregational leaders who shared ideas. A special thanks to youth, volunteers, and staff wo have contributed in many ways to make this possible. Let us “Wade in the Water” together for community health and wellness.
